The Foundry's second play of their Liverpool residency was Happy Valley, a furiously-funny, adrenaline-charged tale from the lottery generation.
Gus, Josh and Sam are three slacker flatmates bound together by a crippling obsession for 'the horses', and an absolute conviction that they can beat the bookies. Set in a world where reality has gone walkabout, Happy Valley charts their increasingly desperate attempts to make good their massive losses and win. Arguing the odds and hanging on in empty hope, race after race, they come into conflict not just with each other but with the world outside; a world patrolled by a lunatic loan shark who wants their money, his beautiful girlfriend who wants their love, and a hyena-pitbull hybrid who wants their blood.
Happy Valley takes a witty and incisive look at a world where nothing seems certain, life is cheap and everything has its price.
