THE HARROWING

STORYGLASS/FREMANTLE PRODUCTION

A remote island, 13 miles north west of the mainland. Easter week. The present day...

In an isolated farmhouse, a family lies slain. Their daughter, left untouched, is found wandering the hills, lost and bewildered.

As dusk falls on a grieving community, a storm gathers on the horizon and the girl is taken into protective custody. When the shocked islanders gather in fear to mark the tragedy, a mysterious stranger is seen watching the darkening skies near the crime scene. Arrested by local officer, Jackie O’Hara, the man refuses to give his name and is taken in for questioning.

During the recorded interview O’Hara is unnerved by the stranger’s warnings of a coming evil. The next morning O’Hara finds his cell empty. The stranger is gone. And so is the girl.

Mark Healy’s original podcast series tracks the rise of an ancient evil and the battle for survival as a terrifying power takes over the island. Full of dark foreboding, eerie soundscapes and startling revelations, The Harrowing is a crime series that gradually shifts genre to become a disturbing supernatural horror.

REVIEWS

Storyglass’s latest scripted crime thriller with a touch of the supernatural stars Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt as Sergeant Jackie O’Hara, the only survivor of a mysterious incident on a remote Scottish island. Froggatt is beautifully understated as she’s taken in for questioning, recalling the stormy night when it happened. Flashback scenes with rain-splattered sound effects drop more clues as the mystery shifts into supernatural horror. Rellik’s Rosalind Eleazar, Adam James (Doctor Foster) and Sorcha Groundsell (Grantchester) are also in the cast.
